Giving

Donations go straight into the masjid's own Stripe account — WeMasjid never holds the money, and takes 0% platform fee.

Before you start

Your masjid must be verified (a committee document reviewed by us — see Getting started). Until then the Giving page shows a "Verify your masjid first" link. This stops anyone impersonating a masjid to collect donations.

Connect Stripe

From Giving, click Connect Stripe. Stripe will ask for the masjid's legal details, its bank account for payouts, and a committee member to act as the account representative (name, date of birth, address — standard UK payment-processor KYC). Existing Stripe users can reuse most of it.

Funds

Donations go to funds — Sadaqah, Zakat, a building appeal. Each has its own public page and QR code, an optional target with a live progress bar on your screens, and a hide total option for funds where you'd rather not show the running amount. Funds can be open, paused or closed, and one is the default.

Ways to give

  • QR posters — print from the fund's page; donors scan and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay in seconds
  • Screen QR — campaign slides show a scannable QR for the appeal on the TV
  • Recurring gifts — weekly, monthly, or the last ten nights of Ramadan; donors manage their own link
  • Website embeds — a copy-paste iframe from the Widgets page
  • Cash & bank records — record offline donations so the dashboard shows the whole picture

Running it

  • Dashboard — totals by fund, method and source; filters and CSV export of every donation
  • Receipts — emailed automatically, branded with your logo and card details (e.g. "Visa ·· 4242")
  • Payouts & reconciliation — match Stripe payouts to donations, including disputes and refunds
  • Taken by — terminal donations show the volunteer's name on the donations list ("terminal · taken by Amina") so shifts reconcile to people
Stripe charges its normal card fees (~1.5% + 20p on UK cards). WeMasjid adds nothing on top — and never touches the money.

Fee cover and "raised"

Donors can tick fee cover before paying — off by default — which adds the estimated card fee to their charge so the masjid nets the full gift. On terminals, when the masjid claims Gift Aid/GASDS the cover is capped so gift + cover stays within the £30 small-donation limit (full cover under it, a smaller partial cover near it, none at £30 — the gift stays GASDS-eligible).

"Raised" totals everywhere — dashboard, fund progress bars, screens — are net: they exclude any covered fee and are reduced by partial refunds (a £10 gift with £3 refunded counts £7). The one exception is the Gift Aid statistic, which stays on the gross gift minus refunds — that's the basis HMRC pays on.

Receipts and refunds

Every donation has a receipt page — the donor reaches it by email or by scanning the QR the terminal shows after a payment. They can save or print it, have it re-emailed (the page only ever shows a masked address like t•••@gmail.com), or add a Gift Aid declaration. When a donation is refunded the same page shows it — including the date it was refunded — so donors always see the current state.

Committee members issue refunds from the Donations list: any card or terminal donation that succeeded shows a Refund action, which returns the full amount to the donor's card and marks the row with the refund date. Terminal volunteers can undo their own recent payment straight from the device within 30 minutes of taking it — anything older is refunded from this dashboard instead. Manual cash entries are never refunded through Stripe (they never touched it); they can simply be deleted.
