Google Slides on your screens
Put a Google Slides deck on your screens — the committee edits it like any presentation, and every page appears beside the live prayer times.
The idea
A Google Slides deck is a shared document most committees already know how to edit. Link one and WeMasjid renders each page to a picture, caches it, and shows the pages in rotation on your screen — next to the prayer times, the clock and Jumu'ah it draws live. Change a date in the deck and the screen follows by itself.
Connect Google, then add the deck
- Settings → Google → Connect Google — same minimal access as the sheet link: files you pick or we create, never your whole Drive.
- Slides → Add slide → Google Slides deck, then either:
- Create from WeMasjid template — pick a canvas (below), name it, and we make a native Google Slides deck in your Drive with ten pages: a guide page and nine layouts tuned for TVs (announcement, event, Eid/Jumu'ah, appeal with QR spot, photo + caption, du'a, weekly programme, Ramadan table, welcome). Open it in Google Slides and overwrite the text.
- Choose an existing deck — pick any presentation; a preview shows its size and page count before you link.
Pick the right canvas
The canvas is the deck's page size — set once at File → Page setup. WeMasjid templates match the slide area of each layout exactly; a deck on a different layout still shows, letterboxed with bars rather than cropped.
| Canvas | Size (px) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Board panel | 1267×1080 | Board layout — the panel beside the prayer times. The right choice for most masajid. |
| Board portrait | 1080×845 | Board layout on portrait screens — the panel under the prayer times. |
| Widescreen | 1920×1080 | Ticker layout fills it edge to edge; Stage, Bento and LED panes show it with bars top and bottom. |
| Portrait | 1080×1920 | Ticker portrait fills it; other portrait panes show it with bars. |
Day to day
- Hide a page without deleting it — right-click → Skip slide in Google Slides. Skipped pages never reach the screens (the template's guide page is pre-skipped).
- Seconds per page — set in WeMasjid on the slide itself; it applies to every page of the deck. The usual schedule controls (days, times, Ramadan) apply to the whole deck.
- Sync — screens re-read the deck on the same triggers as everything else: about every 10 minutes while a screen is on, on admin page visits, nightly in the background, or press Sync now on the slide. Unchanged decks cost nothing.
- Limit — the first 30 pages are used; a longer deck is truncated (keep screens quick to read).
What doesn't carry over
Pages are shown as flat images — video embeds, animations and transitions don't play. For moving content use the Video or YouTube slide types; for live times use the built-in slides. Fonts render the same on the screens — the templates use Inter, Fraunces and Amiri, all in Google Slides' font list.
Removing a deck
Delete the slide in WeMasjid — if nothing else links to that deck its cached copies and the link are cleaned up too (the file in Drive is never touched). Disconnecting Google in Settings removes all deck slides for the masjid.
Troubleshooting
- "The deck can't be found — was it deleted?" — it was deleted or un-shared; restore it or pick a different deck.
- "Google access was revoked." — reconnect in Settings → Google, then Sync now.
- First sync failed — brand-new decks sometimes need a minute after creation; the slide is kept and the list shows the error in amber. Press Sync now once it's ready.
- Pages look squashed or have bars — the deck's page size doesn't match the layout's slide area; nothing is cropped, but recreating from the matching template looks better.
