Keep your timetable in Google Sheets
Keep your yearly timetable in a Google Sheet the committee can edit — changes reach the screens by themselves.
How it works
When you link a sheet it becomes the single source of truth for stored prayer times. WeMasjid re-reads it, parses every row, and updates the screens whenever the content changes. While it's linked you don't edit times inside WeMasjid at all — you edit the sheet.
Connect Google
- Go to Settings → Google and press Connect Google.
- Sign in with the Google account the sheet should live under (a shared committee account works well).
WeMasjid asks for the smallest access Google allows: your name and email, plus drive.file — it can only see files you pick in the file chooser or files WeMasjid created for you. It cannot browse or read anything else in your Drive. You can disconnect any time from Settings.
Link a sheet
In Prayer → Stored timetable, the Google Sheets card offers two ways in:
- Create my Google Sheet — pick a year and WeMasjid creates a sheet in your Drive, pre-filled with every stored day (365 rows, ready to edit). It lands in your Drive root; move or share it like any other file.
- Choose an existing sheet — pick a spreadsheet you already maintain. WeMasjid shows a preview of how it will parse before you link, so you can check the columns line up.
The sheet must have a Timetable tab (that's the tab WeMasjid reads — don't rename it) with the same columns as the import template: download the template CSV from Prayer → Import timetable to compare. Times are forgiving — 05:30 and 5:30 AM both parse — but keep the header row and the date column exactly as they are. Extra rows for next year are fine.
When changes reach the screens
- While a screen is on — it asks WeMasjid about every 10 minutes, and stale sheets are re-read then. Edits typically show within ~10 minutes.
- Sync now — the button on the Google Sheets card re-reads immediately.
- Nightly — every linked sheet is re-checked once a night (around 3 am), so a masjid whose screens were off all day still picks up changes.
If the sheet hasn't changed since the last check, nothing happens — syncs are content-aware, not timed writes.
What's read-only while linked
The month grid turns read-only and file import, generate and remove are replaced by a note. Everything else stays — the Today tab still shows tomorrow's times, the public page and embeds keep working, and overrides/urgent notices are unaffected.
Unlinking
Unlink on the card removes the link only — your stored days are kept exactly as they were at the last sync, and the sheet in Drive is untouched. Import, generate and remove come back straight away.
Troubleshooting
- "The sheet can't be found — was it deleted or un-shared?" — the file was deleted or the connected account lost access. Restore it from Drive bin, or unlink and link a different sheet.
- "WeMasjid no longer has access to this sheet." — the file was moved out of the account's reach; share it back or pick it again.
- "Google access was revoked." — the connection was disconnected (from Settings, or by a Google password/security change). Reconnect in Settings → Google, then press Sync now.
- A row won't parse — the card shows the sync error with the offending row. Fix the time in the sheet (e.g. 13;30 → 13:30) and it recovers on the next sync — one bad row never blanks the timetable.
